I was mostly pretty uninspired making this. It wasn't the fault of the picture concept or the initial work, just unrelated external forces for the most part. I also forgot to lubricate my inspiration with the proper music, which is usually a big nono. I put on some decent music when I got around to the atmosphere effects (near the end), which made the process easier.
This is also another example of a picture where I put a lot of time into details which wind up getting covered by stuff anyway. The mountains are based off of the general Pacific Northwest aesthetic. Looking at this, I'll have to attempt that theme again with greater visibility. The original idea was that the scene would have a heavy blue-green tone to it. Again, something I'll have to properly invest into a painting in the future (along with making scenes with far more dynamic angles).
The anatomy of Rainbow Dash was a bit screwed up until later on in the picture when I attempted to make fixes, but I still feel that there's something rather off. What's odd is the original pencil sketch layer looked fine. Sticking color on drawings seems to do odd things sometimes.
Drawn and painted in Paint Tool SAI.
